I must admit I am not a die-hard daily primer wearer. I feel all foundations I like, apply quite well as they are along with the right tools and technique. However when I have a certain look in mind I want to definitely achieve, such as a luminous glow or a matte finish, or if I need it to stay on a bit longer during a long busy day, then primers are my best friend! Therefore I will always purchase them and keep different types in my collection!

After hearing about the Becca Backlight Primer Filter numerous times, I figured there was a certain amount of hype building so naturally had to jump on the band wagon and see what the fuss was all about!

I had always tended to gravitate towards more silicone or matte types in the past such as the Smashbox photo finish’s or Benefit’s POREfessional so this was a new type for me. Earlier his year my skin went full on DRY for the first time in my life, maybe something to do with my age? (28) or the fact I’m now living in Perth Australia which is generally a very dry part of the country, making the winter even more harsh perhaps? I don’t know! It didn’t happen last year so we’ll see what happens next winter… Anyway I’m getting off track, my point being around that time the thought of a luminous glowing primer for the first time ever really appealed to me!

In the past I battled with or sometimes embraced the fact my skin was oily (it’s back to oily combo now after that dry spell) so never felt the need to accentuate that aspect with an illuminating primer as the oil did that for me! But even since the dry spell is over my skin is quite well-behaved in the oil department so am still absolutely loving using this primer!

So what does it do? – Becca’s opening line for this is ‘a makeup primer to help blur imperfections and impart a radiant glow‘. Which sounds pretty appealing to me! It pretty much preps the skin to give it an even, glowing overall look giving it a perfect base for any foundation.

What does it feel and look like? – It has the texture of a thickish cream, with a pearly pigment through it. Glides on like a cream but ends up more tacky once blended out, ready to act as a bond for foundation.

What are the undertones/colour? – It’s sheer, gold-beige with a pearlescent finish.

15239165_10153805717251642_1264468254_n Shown before and after blending out.

Does it have a scent? – Yes it actually has a gorgeous scent, sort of a mixture of a nice perfume and sun lotion if you ask me! (although it does not contain SPF) It’s quite luxurious and I love the smell but I don’t notice it once makeup is applied.

How did it work for me? –

  • It was a dream to apply first off for me, it literally made me look more even and the glow is just beautiful without looking oily or shimmery, it really looks like it comes from within! If i was blessed with slightly darker, more even skin I would definitely wear this on its own, but my fair uneven complexion does quite pull it off.
  • I’ve used it under many different types of foundations, one being MAC Pro long wear, which has a higher coverage and is very long wearing. It can look too matte if you don’t make the effort to prep the skin and use too much powder so this primer is perfect for bringing it to life a bit more. The glow shines through this foundation even with its full coverage. Another was Josie Maran Vibrancy foundation which is beautiful as it is but paired with this was a DREAM! It caused it to stick and stay on longer, but the two work wonders making me look so glowy!

How did it help the longevity of my foundations? – Honestly this stuff is like a magnet for foundations, like I mentioned before I feel it acts like a tacky bond so foundations really glide and stick on so much better than without. It makes my foundation easily last a few hours longer. I can’t wait to try it under my summer tinted SPF moisturisers on beach days I know that will work like a dream..

I hope this helps if you were looking for a new primer or had been curious about this one.. As you can see, I highly recommend!

You can buy it here for around $65 AUD

If you’re about all things good for your body, skin and planet, AND are partial to a flawless glowing face then read on…

I have talked about this foundation before in a monthly favourites, but have since fallen in love with it even more so felt it worthy of a blog post all of its own to share with you guys!

Here are the certifications Josie guarantees for this foundation.

I was first intrigued by the fact it’s a nutrient dense skin care product powered by 100% organ oil as well as a highly pigmented foundation. If you can treat your skin while looking flawless and ‘vibrant’ then this is just an absolute bonus! It is also certified organic which is just amazing and makes me even more excited to have this in my long-term daily regime, knowing I’m not exposing myself to any more chemicals.

What’s the formula like? – It’s a light-weight, fairly runny foundation which does feel like a lot like an oil/moisturiser while applying it to the skin. But it is highly pigmented giving medium to high coverage which is how it works so magically as a makeup/skin care duo.

The smell – It doesn’t have a scent, it’s very neutral.

Shades – There are 14 different shades under 3 tones, neutral, golden, and pink depending on your skin tone.

Here are some of the exciting magic ingredients

  • Argan Oil – Known for its anti ageing, moisturising, healing and acne treating abilities.
  • Coconut Alkanes – ‘A product obtained from the complete reduction and hydrogenation of a mixture of fatty acids derived from Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil. A plant derived silicone obtained from coconut oil which provides a smooth feel and helps spread-ability.’
  • Coco Caprylate – ‘A skin-conditioning agent naturally derived from coconut oil to provide high hydration, superb spreadability and elegant slip.’
  • Aloe Vera Leaf Juice – Known for its healing properties, nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and essential enzymes that are all good for your skin.
  • Shea Butter – ‘Has such a large healing fraction, in addition to moisturizing fraction, regular use of this natural cream can treat many skin problems, including blemishes, wrinkles, itching, sunburns, small skin wounds, eczema, skin allergies, insect bites, frost bite, and other skin conditions.’
  • Ginger Root Extract – Acts as a stimulant to really brighten the skin, as well as fighting redness and irritation.
  • Blueberry Extract – Blueberries are well-known for their anti-oxidising, anti-ageing effects.

If all these don’t get you excited try this then I don’t know what else I could say to get you going, as personally I find this stuff revolutionary!

How to apply – I thought I would write about how I apply it and give some tips and advice as the first time or two I used it, I wasn’t blown away but only because of the way I applied it and the amount I used. As it’s such a unique formula it does need to be treated differently…

First off I would recommend using a dense, soft, synthetic foundation buffer brush (I use the Morphe M439 or the Real Techniques Buffer Brush.) Only dispense 1 pump to start, and buff it right into the skin. The first time I tried 1 pump over just half of my face and it was way too much, it was sliding around for ages until I dabbed the excess with a sponge. I don’t know if my skin took a while to get used to it or something, but the more I use it the better it settles in and seems to absorb like skin care while looking flawless like a good foundation should! So I basically use 1 pump for my whole face and then build with a bit more if need be..

The second thing I would highly recommend with this and pretty much any foundation and concealer is a beauty sponge. There are so many on the market these days but not all work as well as the leading brands, the Beauty Blender makeup sponge and the Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge. Soak the sponge with water, squeeze out the excess so it’s slightly damp and dab all over the applied foundation to really press, and settle it into the skin – This gives it such a flawless but so natural looking finish.

Other tips – Ok so as I’ve mentioned umpteen times, it is like skin care so it doesn’t really set/dry as much as some foundations so you do need to set with a powder if you’re planning on having a busy day and want it to last. I would also advise not touching your face as it can transfer onto your fingers but to me this is such a minor downside compared to the positives. In general it does not lift or transfer without touching. Or you can just apply it as it is and go about your day as though you have the most luxurious, flawless face cream on in the world!

My skin since using Vibrancy foundation – I have felt a difference in general with my skin from other skin care I’ve currently been using, but I have always tried good quality stuff and sometimes no matter how much you look after you skin, a foundation can come along and really upset those results. This foundation has kept in harmony with all my TLC and has definitely played a part in calming, clearing and brightening the complexion of my skin overall. I’m obsessed!

The Price – I bought my 30ml bottle for $66AUD from Mecca so it’s on the higher end of the price scale but absolutely worth it.

The packaging – It’s glass, it’s colourful, AND it’s ROSE GOLD. Even the outer box is stunning. Say no more..

Which ever way you apply this, you are going to achieve glowy, flawless skin with good coverage all while getting the treatment of class-A skin care. I 100% know I will now ALWAYS have a bottle of this.

I hope you enjoyed reading about one of my new absolute favourites! There are so many more gorgeous sounding products from the Josie Maran Cosmetics line I cannot wait to try so I will be sure to let you know how I go with those too..

When it becomes apparent that something has become a cult sensation, there’s usually a very good reason why. If you haven’t heard of this revolutionary skincare solution then you my dear, have been living under a rock!

I’m at the age (28) where I am transitioning from that 20 something acne prone, problematic pain in the a** skin, to the slightly dryer, more behaved but duller skin. I still bare some scars from those pesky break outs and still get the odd break out now, I also have some sun damage from being a lover of being out doors in the sunshine which this also helps fade. All of a sudden I am also having to jump on to the anti ageing regime before that creeps up on me too! I know 28 is still young in the grand scheme of things but things do start changing past the age of 25 apparently, and I am a firm believer in prevention is better than cure! Plus a lot of skin rejuvenating skin care is generally good for both anti ageing and acne as they play a big part in resurfacing and Alpha H’s Liquid Gold is just that.. Listen up!

I’ve had my first bottle of Liquid Gold (perfect name) for a little under a month now, and I already know I will never be without a bottle!

What the brand themselves say about this product – ‘The bridge between the beauty counter and invasive procedures (I love that description), Liquid Gold is an award-winning revolutionary resurfacing treatment that uses a state of the art, low pH delivery system to effectively diminish wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage. Praised by the beauty elite, our best selling ‘cult’ product works like an ‘overnight facial’ to brighten and revitalise tired, ageing skin, and radically improve the appearance of the complexion. Clinical studies show that in just 20 minutes, Liquid Gold increases moisture levels in the skin, improves wrinkle depth and reduces skin roughness…

…Perfect for those lazy girl nights
This no-fuss, one-step facial is a toner, exfoliator, serum, and moisturizer; just wipe it on and leave it, it’s that easy
Salon results. One step. Simple.’

Who can use it? – Anyone with mature, sun damaged, premature ageing, acne scarred or acne prone skin.

What are the key ingredients? – 5% cosmetic grade Glycolic acid, liquorice extract and silk proteins. Glycolic acid is used in professional peels. This is a ‘cosmetic grade’ version, meaning it is safe to use at home as is has a lower intensity. Paired with the liquorice it acts as a high performance home treatment.

15310730_10153828685231642_1661449095_nHow do you use it? – You soak a cotton pad or ball in this clear, toner like solution, and sweep over a cleansed face, neck and décolletage. They say to use it every other night, which is what I have done. After cleansing my face, I sweep it all over and I do not follow with any moisturiser or serum. You can apply moisturiser over the top if you wish but to have a more intense treatment, don’t follow with this step.

How does it smell? – It smells like you would expect an acid to smell, kind of like nail polish remover but not as strong, a bit similar to the clinique step 3 toning solutions if you’ve ever tried those.

How has it worked for me? – I must be honest I wasn’t blown away the very first time I used it like I have heard from other people’s reviews. I’ve used some lovely treatments in the past where my skin feels instantly soft, calm and evenly toned the next morning but this needed some time. I have used it every other night on it’s own for a little under 4 weeks now and in that time I have gone from not seeing a huge difference in maybe the first couple of uses, to a few slight break outs from the pores unclogging in random places, to clearing those all up, and now I am reaping the rewards the last 2 weeks of clearer, brighter glowing skin! I felt a slight tingling sensation but that’s good because it’s basically means it’s working. I am extremely happy with the way my makeup goes on, with the way my skin feels in the morning and I am starting to see my scars disappear. I still have a little way to go as far as a clear, even complexion goes but it’s 100% heading in that direction fast and that is so exciting for me.

The cost – It retails at around $60AUD depending where you buy it from. You can buy a 100ml bottle here for $59.95 although they often have it reduced to $45-$50 so check that out..

Alpha H thank you, and I am so excited to try out your whole range of beautifying products, you revolutionists.

Instagram is obviously a very powerful tool for advertisement these days and this is a brand who’s feed I’ve always obsessed over. All the ‘models’ they feature have absolute hair goals, the packaging is fresh, and the tropical vibes are just too tempting. But is it all just great advertisement or is there magic behind their products too?

I was lucky enough to receive some shampoo and conditioner at the Bloggers United Australia even in Perth last week, as well as the hydrating mask sent to me from Hello Hair themselves! ..Alas my curiosity ends and my luscious locks can begin!

As a beauty blogger I am very fortunate to receive products to try out from so many amazing brands. Some bloggers like to inform people of their bad experiences with products as well as the good, but I am a girl who has always believed in promoting what you love instead of bashing what you dislike (hate is, as always, too strong a word!). So as you can guess I have some pretty positive things to say about this tropically themed, high performance natural hair brand…

I will take you through these in the order I used them.. (I threw the packaging of the shampoo and conditioner out as they were only sample sizes so these shampoo and conditioner bottle pictures are courtesy of Hello Hair themselves).

$27.00 AUD 200ml

Shampoo – First off it contains no nasties such as parabens, sulphates, silicones, perfumes etc, which is always a great place to start for me! Not only for the health benefits, (not that I’m conscious enough of that sort of thing, but I just love finding things that I can introduce into my regime that work well and are as chemical free as possible) but also for the way shampoos make my hair feel over all. Shampoos full of sulphates etc cause my hair to feel dry, uncontrollable and just ‘meh’, I honestly do feel such a difference when these are not invited to the party!

It’s a clear formula which I also love, as they seem to be the most cleansing, which is always a bonus for me as I wash my hair twice a week, hence needing that little extra ‘oomph’ to cleanse away that darn dry shampoo!

The smell was my favourite part of this product.. It had a citrusy scent with hints of botanics and essential oils, which just makes you feel more so like it’s doing your hair good, not damaging whatsoever all while indulging in that ‘spa smell’. Oh yes!

I always like to see how my hair feels once washing out a new shampoo, and this one ticked those boxes. I basically like it when my hair feels full of life even though its saturated with water, and it feels thoroughly cleansed ready to absorb phase 2 – conditioning!

Which takes us to this very phase…

$27.00 AUD 200ml

Conditioner – Again, no nasties! Smells just as good as the shampoo. Includes some amazing ingredients such as the orange and lime citrus oils, avocado oil and many more natural oils which is obviously going to be a positive in every way!

I left this conditioner on for around 5 minutes in the shower is it’s not meant as a leave in treatment (although if you were to leave it on it would only do amazing things!) and my hair felt very nourished, easy to comb through when wet and dried to feel weightless, soft and shiny. As a colour treated blonde, this is very important as the wrong product will tell on you hair too easily and can look frizzy or dull. Nope not with this!

$15.00 AUD 100ml

Hydrating Mask – (My photo, with a little spillage to show you what it looks like!) I used this hydrating mask a few days later, as I had it all set to go the day I ended up trying the shampoo and conditioner until I realised it’s to be used on dry hair. Hence trying the others first! Anyway……

So there I was, a few days post my first Hello Hair experience, all ready to slap this ‘mask’ on my mop and was VERY lucky not to get it all over the place! I was expecting a thick, rich leave in conditioner but my palm quickly filled up with what looked like pure olive oil.. (Be warned!) Once I got over my mini heart attack of nearly spilling it all over the carpet I went ahead and slapped it on, and continued to until my hair was just one big grease fest. I think I left it on for around 2 hours? You can leave it on for anything from 30 minutes but I always like to put it on throw it up in a clip and forget about it, even sleep through the night sometimes. Like I said, this blonde hair needs a lot of love!

Ok so, like I mentioned before, it looks just like olive oil and smells a lot like it too, because that it one of the main ingredients, along with coconut oil which I could also get a whiff of, almond oil, organ oil, olive leaf extract, and castor oil – all very good for the hair and body in general.

I couldn’t help but wonder though, how much of the other ingredients bar olive and coconut oil there are in it as it did look, smell and feel very ‘home made’ and am sure I would have had much of the same results if I did raid my kitchen cupboards.. For this reason I am a bit sceptical of whether I would actually purchase this. Nevertheless it obviously did condition my hair, and did feel quite nice after. I just wasn’t blown away!

All in all, Hello Hair for me is worth the hype, maybe more so the shampoo and conditioner than the mask but high marks all round!

I love products that I can use, instantly see how they work, fall in love with, and tell the world without having to use a few weeks to see gradual results. Get me? Well basically these fall exactly into that category!

I was lucky enough to be gifted these scrummy Matrix Biolage, Sugar Shine products only 3 days ago while at Perth’s ‘Bloggers United Australia’ event from the lovely Nikita from L’Oréal Proffesionnel.

These are my first ever Matrix products and had only ever heard of the brand once from a good friend who stocks it in his salon but never got round to trying it out before deserting him for Australia!

I believe there are 5 different products stocked in the Sugar Shine range, a shampoo, conditioner, a gloss treatment, and these two beauties.. Let me show you!

Sugar Shine Polishing Hair Scrub

I don’t know about you, but this its a totally new one for me, a hair scrub!? But I now get it, and it works wonders!

  • An overall description – A silicone and paraben free, (actual) sugar scrub that removes build up/impurities. It can also be used as a body scrub!
  • How does it work? – Ok so the directions tell you to section your damp, unwashed hair into 3 sections, then using one teaspoon sized amount for each section, gently work into your hair in downwards. I basically just got a hand full and slapped it on top and worked it down the whole of my hair. This ‘scrubs’ away any build up of product or dry shampoo. Ideal for me as I only wash my hair twice a week and usually need a good cleanse to get rid of the last couple of days of dry shampoo and hair oil! ‘Scrub’ sounds harsh and was kind of worried how it would feel on my blonde treated hair but it honesty felt good and as you work it in it dissolves.
  • How does it feel? – Once the scrub has dissolved, my hair didn’t really feel like it had anything in it, I was expecting maybe a sticky/slimy residue from the dissolved sugar but no it kind of works its way right in. Im guessing once it’s worked in there are ingredients that treat the hair as well as the physical scrub of the crystals because when I rinsed it out my hair felt  SO good. I can always tell a good in-shower hair product by the way my hair feels when rinsed – Rather than just feeling wet and limp, it has life in it, I know what I mean, I hope you do to!! Once rinsed, you then continue to wash and condition as usual, my hair seemed to take really well to the shampoo and conditioner as it was feeling thoroughly cleansed and ready to absorb the products.
  • What does it smell like? – In a nutshell, good enough to eat! It has a seriously delicious, edible-like sweet smell as you can imagine by the name, but probably even better than what you imagine! You just have to go try to know!
  • What’s the price? – For a 220ml tub I’ve seen it retail up to $25AUD but the cheapest place I’ve seen is Beauty Bay for $18.30AUD which you can click here to buy! What a steal.

I love the novelty of this product, as I had never used or even heard of a hair scrub before! It smells divine, makes my shampoo, conditioner etc work better and is just an all round great product especially for all of us dry shampoo fiends.

Sugar Shine Illuminating Mist

Ok so I don’t feel like this product needs much explanation. It’s basically a protection/shine mist that can be used on wet or dry hair. It smells just as sweet and beautiful as the scrub, although it has a slightly more luxurious scent which I would actually LOVE as a perfume.

I first tried it on dry hair, and as I have bleach blonde hair and can suffer with fly aways or unruly ‘sticky-outies’ this is a dream product as it instantly tamed and made my hair shine without leaving a wet/greasy film. A weightless, luxurious mist for that.

On wet hair it seemed to bond to my hair really well leaving it feel silky smooth before even drying it, it also apparently protects hair from up to 450° heat which is a bonus although I’m not sure what hair appliances would ever need to go that hot!

I also love the broad, fine mist it gives out, making application so effortless!

I love this for the shine it gives, and the gorgeous scent. It’s going to be a firm favourite for that finishing touch to smell good and to feel ‘put together’!

It retails at around $20-$25AUD BUT Beauty Bay does is again with an amazingly lower price of $16.90 which you can purchase here.

I know you’ll love these just as much as me, I just can’t wait to try out the shampooconditioner and gloss treatment ASAP!

Thanks again to Nikita from L’Oréal Proffessionel for this collaboration, I LOVE being introduced to new products I instantly fall in love with..
